Black Market III is coming up on the first anniversary of our first show (Sept 16th, 2011). It's been a busy year packed with some big shows in some of San Diego's finest venues--Humphrey's Backstage, The Griffin, The Ruby Room, the Pier View, Ramona Mainstage, The Shakedown Bar, and 4th & B, just to name a few.
Highlights have included our first show, playing with Roni Lee (Venus & The Razorblades, The Runaways, Joan Jett) on several shows, opening for Rick Derringer, and being one of the headliners on the So-Cal Showcase Music and Arts Fest. It's also been cool being named as 'The band to watch in 2012' by Dave Good of the San Diego Reader, as well as one of the 10 indie bands from San Diego that people should be listening to. We've actually gotten a lot of love from the Reader, as well as San Diego Acoustic, Songwriter's Market, Show 'N' Tell, So-Cal Showcase, and DJ Sam Diego at 107.9FM
Another highlight worth mentioning is Black Market III's nomination of 'Best Blues' by the San Diego Music Awards. I do appreciate being recognized many times by the SDMA's for my bands The Mississippi Mudsharks, The Tiki Torchers, and now BMIII, but the real winners are local San Diego kids and school music programs who receive money and guitars, provided by the San Diego Music Awards Academy and Taylor guitars. (All of you who know me know my heart is in teaching music to kids.)
We have also started getting out of town, as I am re-establishing some old touring routes and making some new ones. Playing shows in China Lake, The Starline in Fresno, and Shooters in Fresno was a great start (Thanks MoFo Party Band)! All those shows rocked. Upcoming is 2 nights at the famous Riviera Resort in Palm Springs, and another short trip to Reno, Sacramento, and Fresno.
Probably the most exciting events yet to come this year include the release of our first CD, and the Fall European Tour. 'Songs That Shake The Cage' will be released on Aug 11th, 2012 with a party at the Griffin in San Diego. There will be a second release party for our North County fans at the Pier View on Aug 24th, 2012. I will write a separate blog about the CD!
The Fall European Tour will go from Sept 7th through Sept 30th, and take us through Belgium, Holland, Germany, and England. 20 cities in 24 days (not counting travel days before and after the first and last shows)! This will be my 12th tour of Europe, but the band's first. Looking forward to hitting the old haunts, and knockin' out some new ones!
Thanks to all of our great friends who have shown us a lot of love and support as we get this band off the ground. We will never forget all you have done for us!
